If you’ve seen Michael Phelps’ interview with Matt Lauer on TODAY from April 27, then check out the more in-depth report from Dateline’s “On Assignment” last week.
The Phelps portion of the show starts at the 30-minute mark above.
The piece from May 15 included more from Phelps and coach Bob Bowman‘s interviews with Lauer from their Arizona training base.
Phelps discussed his relationship with his father and what he wants to accomplish in his fifth Olympics in Rio, should he make the U.S. team.
“There’s a number in my head,” Phelps said, coyly, when asked of his goals before he retires after the Rio Games.
If Phelps doesn’t hit that number in August, will he have gone out the way he wants?
“Yeah, because I’m giving an honest effort,” Phelps said.
Phelps’ next two scheduled meets are in Austin, Texas, from June 3-5 and the U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha from June 26-July 3 (broadcast schedule here).
