The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Paul Sewald. Peterson should stand a good chance of clearing waivers.

The reliever has made six appearances for the Mets in his three stints with the big league club this year. He has a 5.91 ERA in 28 career appearances.

Peterson lost his spot on the 40-man roster last month but now finds himself back in the majors. He’ll operate in low leverage situations.

The move clears out a 40-man roster spot for outfielder Aaron Altherr, who was claimed off waivers from the Giants on Thursday afternoon. Peterson, 28, owns a career 5.56 ERA in 34 major league innings.

Peterson was only up for a day, throwing 2 1/3 scoreless innings in his lone appearance.

Peterson was sent down last month after having atypical control issues. He’ll give the bullpen a fresh arm after Saturday’s 18-inning loss to the Brewers.

Peterson made the Mets’ major league roster out of camp, but he’ll get the boot after allowing two runs on four hits and six walks over four innings of relief. Corey Oswalt will fill his spot in the bullpen.

Peterson has allowed five runs over 8 1/3 innings this spring. He’ll join the Mets’ bullpen eventually this season.

The Mets needed to clear a roster spot for Chris Beck, who was claimed off waivers from the White Sox on Wednesday. Peterson hasn’t seen much action in the majors this year but has pitched well when called upon, delivering a 2.08 ERA over 4 1/3 innings. The 27-year-old should be called up again at some point.

That clears a roster spot for Steven Matz, who is starting the second game of Thursday’s doubleheader in Philadelphia. Peterson made just one appearance during his brief stint in the big leagues, allowing four runs over two innings in Wednesday’s win at Baltimore. Despite his struggles, we could see Peterson back in Queens when rosters expand in September.
