We have a great slate of baseball on Thursday, bringing us one step closer to the weekend and delivering us some enjoyment as we get through the penultimate weeknight. I’ve got my eyes on a couple of plays and will get to them now.
Colorado Rockies (+160) vs. Philadelphia Phillies (-191) Total: 8
The Phillies are in the thick of the playoff hunt, and the next team they will look to take a series from is the Colorado Rockies. Philadelphia has managed to hit the ball incredibly well of late with a 117 wRC+ in the last two weeks, which ranks sixth in the league, and features several hot hitters. The one thing that has held the Phillies back has been pitching, whether it’s the inexplicable decline of Zack Wheeler, the injury to Ranger Suarez or the bullpen blowing countless games.
Speaking of Suarez, he will return from a triceps injury on Thursday, and he can’t totally be counted on to be his normal self given the ailment. Hurting his cause further would be the Rockies’ .780 OPS against lefties, which is a very good number.
With Suarez potentially giving up a few runs and the Phillies hitting well, I think this leads us to an Over. You also have to consider that Antonio Senzatela has a 4.56 ERA on the road, and has not enjoyed life away from Coors Field.

Toronto Blue Jays (-105) vs. New York Yankees (-115) Total: 8.5
I’m going with another Over here, and this time it’ll be with two more well-established offenses.
[[ad:athena]]
The Blue Jays enter with the best OPS int he league over the last two weeks, and while the Yankees do trail behind in 25, they’ve had a very solid second half of the year at the dish. Helping New York’s cause will be a matchup with Jose Berrios, who has not had a great time as a member of the Blue Jays. The righty has a 3.79 ERA in seven starts with ballooning strikeout numbers. It just so happens that the Yankees have been disciplined at the plate in the second half, and also have plenty of experience against Berrios.
On the other side, the Blue Jays have been one of the best offenses in the game against left-handed pitching and will get a regressing Nestor Cortes, Jr. I think both teams should be in prime position to score a lot of runs.
