The connection between Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski and the the military is a well-known one, as Krzyzewski played at West Point and served in the Army for five years before moving into coaching.
The Duke program is working to bring its basketball team to Fort Bragg for a practice on October 15, three days after the start of practices, according to the Fayetteville Observer.
In addition to his accomplishments at Duke and tenure in the US Army, Krzyzewski led the United States men’s basketball team to Olympic gold medals in 2008 and 2012.
If the day at Fort Bragg comes to fruition Duke will become the latest program to visit a military base, not only to show their appreciation to the men and women who serve but to also reap benefits of their own.
Baylor recently spent a weekend at Fort Hood, going through teamwork exercises and weapons training simulation while also coaching four of the base’s basketball teams.
