Multiple reports yesterday afternoon -- one coming from the official site of an NFL team -- had Arizona Cardinals defensive backs coach Teryl Austin headed to Florida as the Gators’ new defensive coordinator.
While that might ultimately be the case, it’s not there quite yet.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, and as of last night, Austin has not been hired by the Gators. At least, UF officials have not been willing to confirm Austin’s hiring, although, based on the tea leaves, it could just be a matter of semantics and the Austin announcement could come down at any point throughout the day today.
Austin met with head coach Urban Meyer and others in Gainesville on Wednesday, and Meyer reportedly came away from the interview very impressed with the coach.
