James Rodgers missed Oregon State’s game last weekend after suffering a concussion. Now, the versatile wide receiver could find himself on the outside of the playing field looking in for a helluva lot longer than just a single game.
During the Beavers’ huge 29-27 road win over favored Arizona Saturday, Rodgers suffered what appeared to be a significant injury to his left leg as he was crossing the goal line on a 56-yard touchdown pass that was, incidentally, called back because of an OSU penalty. Based on the video of the injury, it doesn’t appear Rodgers will be available anytime in the near future.
“He grabbed me by the collar, on my shoulder pads and I knew immediately something was wrong with the side of my leg,” Rodgers said. “I didn’t feel it snap, and I didn’t hear nothing, I just knew it was very tight. When I couldn’t get up and walk, that’s when I knew it was bad.”
There was no official word from school officials as to the extent of the injury, and an MRI will be taken Sunday to determine exactly how long Rodgers will be sidelined.
If it’s determined that Rodgers’ season is over, the senior would be eligible to apply for a medical hardship from the NCAA.
