Buffs’ leading receiver suffers bad break in scrimmage

The battle for the starting quarterback job drew most of the attention during Colorado’s scrimmage Thursday, but it was an injury to another member of the offense that “stole the show”, the Boulder Daily Camera is reporting.

Scotty McKnight, the Buffaloes’ leading receiver in 2009, suffered an injury to his leg late in the first scrimmage of the spring.

Head coach Dan Hawkins told reporters afterwards that he did not have a report on the extent of the injury, while a member of the medical staff stated that, as the Daily Camera writes, “nothing peculiar was visible on a magnetic resonance imaging test that was performed and doctors would review the test today.”

However, McKnight told Tyler Hansen, who’s battling Cody Hawkins for the starting QB job, that he had suffered a broken fibula and would miss the remainder of the spring.

McKnight’s 76 receptions, 895 yards and six touchdowns led the Buffs last season.
