Colorado AD Rick George: “Mike MacIntyre is going to be our coach next year.”

Mike MacIntyre is 10-24 in nearly three full seasons as Colorado’s head coach. He’s emerged a winner only two times in 24 tries against Pac-12 opponents.

Despite that, his boss says he’ll be back for a fourth season in 2016.

“I’ve said it publicly several times: Mike MacIntyre is going to be our coach next year,” Colorado AD Rick George told the school’s official website. “There’s really nothing to discuss. I’ve said it several times, and nothing has changed. People have asked and I’ve said the same thing: Mike’s going to be our coach. Let’s move on to the next topic.”

MacIntyre has improved the Buffs’ competitiveness from the Jon Embree era (4-21 in 2011-12), playing Arizona and UCLA to within one score this year. At 4-6 this year, Colorado would need to win two of its final three against USC, Washington State and No. 10 Utah to reach a bowl game for the first time since 2007.

As for George’s own job status? He was much more non-committal. George is an Illinois graduate, and did not close the door on the possibility of returning home to run the Fighting Illini’s athletics department.

“Nobody has called me and I haven’t talked to anyone,” George said. “I’d be lying if I didn’t say at one point in my life being AD at Illinois wasn’t my dream job. But I love it here at Colorado and I’m excited about what we’ve accomplished since I’ve been here as well as what the immediate future holds. But I just think it’s way too early to be talking about anything right now in that regard.”
