Duke loses leading sacker to ACL/MCL tear

Duke’s blowout win over Tulane Saturday has turned out to be a very costly one for the Blue Devils in general and for their defensive line in particular.

The school announced Monday evening that defensive end Kenny Anunike will miss the remainder of the 2011 season after suffering a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee during the 48-27 win. The redshirt junior will undergo surgery at some point in the near future.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Kenny as he recovers from yet another unfortunate injury,” head coach David Cutcliffe said. “He was obviously off to an excellent start this season, and we’ll miss is production and leadership on the defensive front.”

Anunike’s four sacks and five tackles for loss are both tops on the team.
