Ex-Miami WR Garrett Kidd officially a Northwestern Wildcat

John Kidd was a four-year letterman for Northwestern back in the early eighties. Now, his son is officially a legacy.

NU announced via a press release that Garrett Kidd has been added to its 2015 football roster. The announcement came two weeks or so after the former Miami walk-on took to social media to reveal that he had been placed on scholarship at NU.

Because he comes to Evanston as a graduate transfer, he will be eligible to play immediately this coming season.

After taking a redshirt in 2011 at The U, the 6’2″, 190-pound Kidd played in 21 games the past three years. He caught two passes for a total of 13 yards, with none of those statistics coming in 2014. Following the Virginia game this past season, he was named the team’s Special Teams Player of the Week after blocking a punt that was returned for a touchdown by teammate Hugo Delapenha Jr.

A walk-on his first three years with the Hurricanes, he was put on scholarship following the 2013 season. In February of this year, it was announced that Kidd had decided to retire from the program.
