I didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night as part of a lawyer convention, but I’m guessing a member of the South Carolina football program is in some serious and potentially deep legal hot water.
According to WISTV.com, Gamecocks linebacker Angelo Watley has been arrested and charged for an incident that stems from an alleged burglary Sunday morning. Per the station, Watley has been charged with grand larceny of goods that value more than $2,000 but less than $10,000, financial transaction card theft and violent burglary in the second degree.
Here are the relevant details that are known at this time:According to the Columbia Police Department, officers responded to a resident on Senate Street just before 7:00 a.m. Sunday in regards to a possible burglary. When officers arrived, the two occupants inside the home reported that they woke up to find Watley inside their home.
Watley is accused of stealing more than $2,700 worth of goods, including a MacBook, an iPad, and money.
As a result of the arrest, Watley has been suspended indefinitely by the USC football program. This is not Watley’s first brush with the law recently, either; last year, prior to enrolling at USC, he was hit with six counts of making terroristic threats.
A member of USC’s 2011 recruiting class, Watley took a redshirt for his true freshman season.
