For the first time since 2005, the Associated Press has unanimously crowned a school in their season-ending poll. But the rankings weren’t without somewhat of a mini-controversy below the tops spots.
On the strength of their 37-21 win over Colt-less Texas in the BcS title game, Alabama was tapped as the No. 1 team by all 60 AP voters. The Longhorns came into the game No. 2, and exited the same way despite the loss.
With an unblemished 14-0 mark and a win over then No. 4 TCU in the Fiesta Bowl on their resume’, Boise State could do no better than No. 4. The Broncos did finish just four points behind No. 3 Florida, however.
The Big Ten, long bashed by anyone and everyone, finished with three teams in the Top Ten -- No. 5 Ohio State, No. 7 Iowa and No. 9 Penn State. Another conference school -- Wisconsin -- finished at No. 16.
TCU (No. 6), Cincinnati (No. 8) and Virginia Tech (No. 10) rounded out the Top Ten.
