No-Wynn situation: Utah QB day-to-day with thumb injury

Fresh off an overtime win over No. 15 Pittsburgh in the season opener Thursday, Utah should be basking in the glow of a victory that will push them back into the Top 25 when the rankings are released. That enthusiasm is likely tempered somewhat, however, thanks to what is hopefully no more than a minor injury to one of their most pivotal players.

Quarterback Jordan Wynn suffered an injury to the thumb on his throwing hand in the second half of the win and, the Salt Lake Tribune reports, is listed as day-to-day according to school officials.

Head coach Kyle Whittingham said afterwards that there were no serious injuries incurred during the game. Still, given where the Wynn injury is, there at least has to be a bit more concern that it could be a lingering issue.

The dinged thumb had little negative impact on Wynn’s performance as he completed 21-of-36 passes for 283 yards and three touchdowns, although the sophomore did admit that he “had a couple of missed throws.”

If for some reason Wynn weren’t able to go, Terrance Cain would get the nod. The senior started the first eight games of the 2009 season before being replaced by Wynn.
