When Andre Debose signed a Letter of Intent with the Florida Gators last February, he was widely hailed as the next Percy Harvin, the über playmaker who left Gainesville a month earlier to become an early entrant in the 2009 NFL draft.
A hamstring injury, though -- believed to have initially been suffered at the Florida state track meet in April -- forced the explosive Debose to miss the entire 2009 season, and was severe enough that surgery was required in September.
Since then, rumors have abounded that Debose’s 2010 season was in jeopardy because of the severity injury and subsequent surgery.
While he’s far from all the way back, an update from the Orlando Sentinel should give the program hope that the receiver will be able to return this season.
According to the paper, Debose is able to sprint full speed on a treadmill. That’s a far cry from where he was just a month ago, when he could only run in a pool and speculation was that he would need additional surgery. That’s not the case, at least at this point in his rehab.
As far as spring practice is concerned, Debose should be able to participate but only as a non-contact player.
