Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller compared Duke TE Daniel Helm to Pittsburgh Steelers TE Jake McGee.
Miller writes that Helm’s “tape at Duke shows that he’s a pro-style, three-down tight end in that offense,” but worries that the 6-foot-4, 249-pounder simply doesn’t have the athleticism to do much at the next level. You’ll likely see him find an NFL home as an undrafted free agent when all is said and done.
  • Tight End #43
NFL Media’s Lance Zierlein compared Duke TE Daniel Helm to C.J. Uzomah.
Uzomah has been a backup tight end who has contributed as a pass catcher at times with Tyler Eifert missing time. Helm (6'4/249) fits that mold, but it may take some development to get there. Zierlein saw athleticism on tape, but he busted at the NFL Scouting Combine when he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.89 seconds. Helm will still receive interest since he has experience on special teams.
  • Tight End #43
Duke TE Daniel Helm ran the 40-yard dash in 4.89 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Helm (6'4/249) won’t meet a lot of athletic minimums for NFL teams and he didn’t produce like an NFL-caliber tight end either. At Duke as a redshirt senior, Helm managed to average 6.6 yards on his 41 targets, the worst YPT in the tight end class. Helm also only caught two touchdowns despite playing with potential Day 1 quarterback Daniel Jones, who also didn’t produce. As of now, there’s not a ton to love with Helm as a receiving prospect and he’ll probably be one of the last tight ends drafted in 2019.
  • Tight End #43
Duke redshirt senior TE Daniel Helm has accepted an invitation to play in the 2019 East-West Shrine Game Jan. 19 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Named to the Mackey Award preseason watch list, Helm (6'4/255) enters Duke’s regular season finale against Wake Forest with 20 receptions for 228 yards and two touchdowns. NFLDraftscout.com has the redshirt senior, who began his career at Tennessee, ranked 17th on its list of draft-eligible tight ends.
  • Tight End #43
Tennessee freshman TE Daniel Helm is expected to transfer.
Helm started two of 12 games this season, catching six passes for 37 yards with a long grab of 13 yards. The 6'4 freshman is from Illinois, so he could look at schools closer to home.
