Andrei Vasilevskiy

Andrei Vasilevskiy

Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

DRAFT is back for another season of quick and exciting daily fantasy action. Their DFS platform offers poolies with a chance to participate in a format that most of us have grown very accustomed to over the years. You can compete in a live snake draft in which the participants take a player with each pick. Unlike other DFS games, this gives you the opportunity to use your knowledge to craft a team that no one else will have because the players you select cannot be chosen by your competition.

The draft is quick as you are allotted just 30 seconds per pick and you take five players. Your team is comprised of three forwards, a defenseman and a goalie.

Your strategy can be dictated by the positions being selected ahead of you. For instance, if you are going last and everyone else has a goaltender then you can wait until your last pick to make that selection. Of course, selecting players going up against weaker competition or players who are riding hot streaks are always popular strategies as well.

Forward Rankings

1. Nikita Kucherov

2. Nathan MacKinnon

3. Auston Matthews

4. Mitch Marner

5. Brayden Point

6. John Tavares

7. Leon Draisaitl

8. Mikko Rantanen

9. Jack Eichel

10. Viktor Arvidsson

11. Elias Pettersson

12. Aleksander Barkov

13. Steven Stamkos

14. Jeff Skinner

15. Sam Reinhart

16. Gabriel Landeskog

17. Brock Boeser

18. Jonathan Huberdeau

There are plenty of outstanding forwards and there is no problem waiting in three team drafts. Kucherov has been on a tremendous hot streak with eight goals and 11 assists in his last seven games and is the first player this season to hit the 100-point mark. MacKinnon should be ranked second with the hot Matthews third. Try and get at least two-thirds of a line and hope they have a big night. Kucherov and Point go well together as does Matthews and Marner (they are together on the power play). MacKinnon and Rantanen go well together as a third pairing and if you are in a four or six team pool, combining Eichel and Skinner won’t hurt. Don’t forget that Connor McDavid is suspended.

Defenseman Rankings

1. Roman Josi

2. Morgan Rielly

3. Victor Hedman

4. Mattias Ekholm

5. Shea Weber

6. Rasmus Dahlin

There are plenty of defensemen and there is no one who stands out with the exception of Josi of late. Josi has five goals and 13 points in his last 10 games. Rielly has been solid all season and has 61 points in 60 games including three assists in his last two games. Hedman heads a solid blueline on the best team in the NHL. Ekholm has fallen back after a great run in the middle of the season. Dahlin is a special player at the tender age of 18 and with 34 points this season, is only three behind Bobby Orr for second place among defensemen in points before the age of 19.

Goaltending Rankings

1. Andrei Vasilevskiy

2. Frederik Andersen

3. Pekka Rinne

4. Carey Price

5. Jacob Markstrom

6. James Reimer

Vasilevskiy should go in the first round and then if you don’t get him in a three-person draft, then you can wait until the final round to take Andersen or Rinne. I would be wary of Reimer and the Panthers in a six-team draft so don’t wait until the last round if you are able to avoid it.

Check with Rotoworld regularly today to make sure the probable goalies are definitely starting.

Keep in mind that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 4W, 2D, 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UTIL).

Andrei Vasilevskiy (Tampa Bay) - G - $9,600 FanDuel, $8,500 DraftKings

Oscar Klefbom (Edmonton) – D - $4,400 FanDuel, $5,000 DraftKings

Rasmus Dahlin (Buffalo) – D - $4,200 FanDuel, $4,700 DraftKings

Mikko Rantanen (Colorado) - W - $6,800 FanDuel, $ 6,600 DraftKings

William Nylander (Toronto) – W - $4,600 FanDuel, $3,900 DraftKings

Vincent Trocheck (Florida) – C - $5,300 FanDuel, $5,200 DraftKings

Vasilevskiy looks to be money in the bank as the Lightning are the best team in the NHL and the Kings could be the worst. Klefbom and Dahlin are great picks in FanDuel but are only good picks in DraftKings. Nylander is a winger in FanDuel but a center in DraftKings but has been looking so much better of late. Rantanen has been struggling of late but could be ready to break out again. Trocheck is good value at center.
