TORONTO -- Mike Weir has not won on the PGA TOUR in nearly three years and wants to do something about it. For starters, his swing coach of 10 years is out.
Weir, the 2003 Masters winner, said Thursday he will no longer be working with Mike Wilson, the only swing coach he’s had since 1996.
‘Mike and I have enjoyed a lot of success during our time working together, but I think there are times in your career when a new perspective and a fresh set of eyes can be a productive thing,’ Weir said.
Weir won seven PGA TOUR events while working with Wilson. However it’s been a long stretch since his last victory, the Nissan Open in February 2004.
The left-hander will now be working with Mike Bennett and Andy Plummer, teaching professionals based in Philadelphia. The two currently instruct PGA TOUR players Aaron Baddeley, Dean Wilson, Will McKenzie and Eric Axley.
Weir’s next event is the PGA Grand Slam of Golf in Hawaii on Nov. 20-22. He’ll be playing against Tiger Woods, Geoff Ogilvy and Jim Furyk. Weir and Jim Rutledge will then represent Canada at the 2006 world golf championship in Barbados from Dec. 7-10.
