Making his first start of the season, Jim Furyk has shown no signs of rust this week in California. Here’s what You Oughta Know heading into the final round of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, where Furyk leads by a shot:
- Furyk is No. 6 in the world, but his last win came at the 2010 Tour Championship. This is the ninth time he has held at least a share of the 54-hole lead since that victory at East Lake.
- While many players are already in midseason form, Furyk is making his first start of the 2014-15 season. He last played at the Ryder Cup in September, and his last stroke-play start came at the season-ending Tour Championship.
- Brandt Snedeker trails Furyk by one shot heading into the final round as he looks to win at Pebble Beach for the second time. He won by two shots in 2013.
- At No. 63 in the world, Snedeker has yet to qualify for the WGC-Cadillac Championship or the Masters. He would crack the top 50 with at least a solo third-place showing this week, a position he would need to hold on March 2 or March 30 to qualify for each respective event.
- Matt Jones is alongside Snedeker at 17 under, one shot behind Furyk entering the final round. Jones captured his maiden PGA Tour victory last year at the Shell Houston Open, but he has not recorded a top-10 finish in 20 starts since.
- Should he win, Jones would become the first Australian champion of this event since Brett Ogle in 1993, and the second Aussie to win in as many weeks following Jason Day’s victory at the Farmers Insurance Open.
- Nick Watney played his college golf at nearby Fresno State, and he enters the final round alone in fourth place, two shots off the pace. Watney’s best finish at this event was a T-6 in 2011, and he will look to win for the first time since The Barclays in 2012.
