This week the Nationwide Tour heads south down the California coast and stops in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., for the 2006 Mark Christopher Charity Classic Presented by Adelphia.
This tournament marks the final five tournaments of the 2006 season, and all bets are off as players will be playing hard for a piece of the $475,000 prize.
Last year, Troy Matteson started the Sunday morning two strokes behind third-round leaders Spike McRoy and Jason Caron, but with a solid final round of 67, Matteson took a two-stroke victory and cruised to his second Nationwide Tour victory of the season.
With that win, and only six tournaments left last year, Matteson kept his lock on the No. 1 spot on the 2005 money list and easily found himself with an automatic PGA TOUR card at seasons end.
Matteson and runner-up McRoy, with the help of Mark Christopher Charity Classic, can now be found on the PGA TOUR. Matteson hopes to add to his 13 cuts made this year on TOUR, as McRoy hopes to regain his success as a past winner.
This year, Empire Lakes Golf Course once again plays host to the Mark Christopher Charity Classic. The Arnold Palmer-designed layout plays 7,017 yards and is a par-71 to the Nationwide Tour players. The course offers signature lakes and uneven fairways, especially on the par-5 11th hole which measures 603 yards, and plays as one of the courses toughest holes.
In attendance this week will be last years runner-up, Jason Caron, who hopes to make this week his first professional win, as well as give him a needed boost up the money list with just four tournaments left.
In addition, four of the last five winners on the Nationwide Tour will be in attendance which includes Jason Enloe, Gavin Coles, Craig Kanada, and Kevin Stadler who all hope to continue their great play in the final stretch of the 2006 season.
