The 10th-ranked Ohio State women’s golf team earned its fourth-consecutive Big Ten championship Sunday in Ann Arbor, Mich. The final round was cancelled because of snow accumulation on the golf course and the tournament was shortened to 54 holes. The Buckeyes, who finished with a mark of 900, won the team title by 32 strokes. The event was held at the par 72 University of Michigan Golf Course (5,966 yards).
Ohio State senior Kristen White claimed medalist honors and captured her first individual crown of the season, finishing with a 54-hole total of 222. Teammate Lindsay Knowlton placed second on the individual leaderboard with a mark of 225 and Jennifer Selfinger finished third with a score of 226. Additionally, Dana Je tied for fourth place with a total of 227.
Ohio State claimed its 11th Big Ten title since the conference began sponsoring championships for women during the 1981-82 season. Four consecutive wins also sets a league record. Ohio State tied the record last season with its third-consecutive win. White also is the ninth medalist winner for the Buckeye program in the 24-year history of the championships.
Ohio State has earned the conference’s automatic bid to compete in the NCAA championships. Selections for the three regional sites in Gainesville, Fla., Lubbock, Texas and Las Cruces, N.M., will be announced Monday. Regional competition is scheduled for May 5-7.
