If your swing is significantly off plane at the top of your backswing, you’re either going to be laid off or across the line.
Of those two positions, being across the line, or having the shaft pointed well right of the target line for a right-handed golfer, is the more difficult position to recover from.

So picture a cell phone in your trail hand, get your swing back on plane and start hitting more solid shots without the need for compensation moves in your downswing.
