Henrik Stenson is hoping that 10 days rest will be enough for him to compete in this week’s Nedbank Challenge.
The FedEx and Race to Dubai champion was forced to withdraw from the South Africa Open because of a lingering wrist injury. Stenson told the European Tour website on Monday that he has been seeing a specialist and that there are still “minor issues there,” but he is hopeful that he will be fit to play in the 30-man event that begins Thursday in South Africa.
“I have spent more time in the ice bucket than a bottle of Moet & Chandon over the last month,” he said, “and I just had to rest it.”
Stenson added that he will receive another consultation on the injured wrist during “the early part of the Christmas break.” Though the discomfort has lingered for months, it hasn’t seemed to affect his form. In his last start, at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, Stenson hit a 3-wood to 2 feet on the final hole to cap a six-shot victory, his third worldwide title of the year.
