Yesterday the Rangers placed right-hander Alexi Ogando on the disabled list with elbow inflammation and today they announced that further examination revealed ligament damage.
T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports that Ogando will be completely shut down from throwing for at least three weeks and could miss two months overall. For now, though, the damage is believed to be limited enough that surgery is not required.
Ogando complained of elbow soreness Tuesday, but he’s been a mess all season with a 6.84 ERA and 15 walks in 25 innings. By comparison, prior to this year the 30-year-old Ogando had a career 3.12 ERA in 381 total innings split between the rotation and bullpen.
