David Wright won’t play in spring game before Wednesday

Scott Hairston aggravating his troublesome left oblique Saturday during an instrasquad game has created some apprehension in Mets camp. So the team is scaling back workloads for some of its stars, including third baseman David Wright.

According to beat writer Andy McCullough of the Newark Star-Ledger, Wright has been scratched from Monday’s Grapefruit League opener and won’t play Tuesday either due to discomfort in his ribcage.

Wright is feeling fine and should have no trouble playing catch-up once he is cleared to resume spring training activities. But he’ll be idle through the middle of this week down in Port St. Lucie, Florida as a precaution.

Wright batted .254/.345/.427 with 14 homers, 13 steals and 61 RBI in 102 games last season.
