Placed on the disabled list over the weekend with right shoulder inflammation, Marlins ace Josh Johnson played catch from 60 feet yesterday and reported no problems afterward.
According to Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post there’s still a chance Johnson could be ready to return on June 1, but the Marlins are “leaning toward having him miss two more starts and return during the next home stand at the earliest.”
Manager Edwin Rodriguez stressed that the goal is to get Johnson healthy for the rest of the season rather than simply get him back in the rotation as soon as possible, which is obviously the smart approach. It sounds like mid-June is the most realistic timetable at this point.
