Seattle had no plans to call up Kevin Gregg from Triple-A, so the 38-year-old reliever has opted out of his minor-league contract four weeks after signing with the Mariners.
Gregg was previously released by the Reds after allowing 12 runs in 11 innings and he has a 10.07 ERA in 23 appearances since 2014, so this could be the end of the line. He walked five batters in eight innings at Triple-A for the Mariners.
There are 78 pitchers in MLB history with at least 150 saves and Gregg has the third-highest career ERA at 4.24.
