Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that the Marlins and Don Mattingly have mutual interest to fill the club’s managerial opening. Mattingly was let go by the Dodgers on Thursday morning following their second Division Series ouster in as many seasons.

Mattingly is considered the frontrunner for the Marlins’ manager job, and they’re expected to start a discussion in the next few days. The Marlins have also interviewed Phil Nevin, Manny Acta, Bo Porter, Alex Cora, Rick Renteria, and Larry Bowa.

Across five seasons at the helm of the Dodgers, Mattingly led the team to a 446-363 record. However, his tenure has mostly been considered a failure as the Dodgers have operated with baseball’s largest payroll in each of the last three seasons, ranging from $216 million to $272 million and have little post-season success to show for it.
