Rays left-hander Matt Moore, pitching for Triple-A Durham, struck out 16 batters in Saturday’s start against the Columbus Clippers, setting a team record. Moore left trailing, however, as he allowed a two-run home run to Zach Walters.
Moore, 26, was demoted to Triple-A on August 3, following six disappointing starts to his 2015 season. He posted an 8.78 ERA with a 17/13 K/BB ratio over 26 2/3 innings. The lefty was sidelined for 15 months after undergoing Tommy John surgery last year.
Moore, since his demotion, has a 3.42 ERA with a 36/5 K/BB ratio in 23 2/3 innings across four starts with the Bulls. The Rays are likely to bring him back when rosters expand on September 1.
