A couple of no-brainer option decisions here.
FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi report that the Mets officially exercised 2013 club options on Tuesday evening for third baseman David Wright and right-handed starter R.A. Dickey.
Wright’s is $16 million. Dickey’s is $5 million.
Wright, 29, batted .306/.391/.492 with 21 home runs and 93 RBI in 156 games this season while playing superb defense at the hot corner. Dickey, 38, posted a 2.73 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 230/54 K/BB ratio in 233 2/3 innings. He could win the NL Cy Young Award.
The Mets will continue to discuss multi-year contract extensions with both players.
