From Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca comes word that left-handed pitcher Mike Zagurski has officially agreed to a contract with the Hiroshima Carp of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball.
Zagurski, who has pitched for four different major league clubs since being drafted in the 12th round by the Phillies in 2005, registered a promising 2.08 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 83/29 K/BB ratio in 60 2/3 innings (46 appearances) this season between the Triple-A affiliates of the Indians and Blue Jays. He was cut loose by Toronto in early September. The 31-year-old southpaw should do pretty well as a reliever in NPB.
