Facing elimination, the Blue Jays pushed across single runs in the third and fourth inning against Rangers starter Martin Perez. In the sixth, Jays shortstop Troy Tulowitzki was able to take a lot of pressure off of his team, breaking the game wide open when he slugged a three-run home run to left field off of Chi Chi Gonzalez.
Gonzalez induced a 3-2-3 double play with the bases loaded and no outs against Chris Colabello, revealing light at the end of a torturous tunnel. Tulowitzki, however, made sure he didn’t escape unscathed. Tulowitzki drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth inning. Leading up to his home run, he had been held hitless in 11 playoff at-bats.
Blue Jays starter Marco Estrada has held the Rangers scoreless through five innings, limiting them to two hits while striking out four and issuing zero walks.
