Gavin Floyd was scratched from his scheduled Monday start with an elbow injury that the White Sox hoped would prove minor, but today they placed him on the disabled list.

The move was made to create a roster opening for Philip Humber, who returns from the DL after missing the past month with an elbow injury of his own.

Humber was horrible following his perfect game on April 21, posting a 7.47 ERA in 10 starts before being shut down, but threw six scoreless innings at Triple-A last week.

This is the first DL stint of Floyd’s career, which includes 170 starts and 1,062 innings. And it’s also unfortunate timing, as he’d been pitching well of late to bounce back from a rough first couple months.
