The Mets will activate Zack Wheeler from the injured list to start Friday night’s series opener against the Pirates. He will be limited to 75-85 pitches, per Newsday’s Tim Healey. Wheeler will pitch opposite the Pirates’ Dario Agrazal.
Wheeler has been on the injured list since July 12 due to fatigue in his right shoulder. His return comes at an opportune time for the Mets, as he will be able to make one more start before the July 31 trade deadline. Wheeler is eligible for free agency after the season.
In 119 innings this season, Wheeler holds a 4.69 ERA with 130 strikeouts and 34 walks. His strikeout and walk totals suggest better results are to be had
