Steven White allowed only an unearned run and three hits over seven innings Thursday in his debut for Triple-A Columbus.
White, who turns 25 next week, was 4-1 with a 2.11 ERA, 52 H and 45/28 K/BB in 68 1/3 IP for Double-A Trenton. He might fit best as a reliever in the majors, but it’s possible that he’ll get a look in the Yankee rotation at some point.

In the only AFL game that wasn’t rained out, Steven White worked five scoreless innings tonight to pitch Grand Canyon past Phoenix.
White gave up two hits and struck out three. With a 1.64 ERA in three starts, he’s bouncing back nicely from what was pretty much a lost season.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher
Grand Canyon’s Steven White pitched one-hit ball for four innings and struck out five in today’s AFL action.
White had a 6.44 ERA in 11 starts for Double-A Trenton this season, but he’s still one of the Yankees’ better pitching prospects. He’ll probably return to Trenton for the start of next year.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher
Steven White pitched 6 2/3 innings of one-hit ball and struck out 12 for Double-A Trenton yesterday.
A strong performance while nearing the end of a very disappointing season. White, who went 11-4 with a 2.61 ERA for two A-ball teams last year, is 2-6 with a 7.11 ERA in 10 starts for Trenton.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher
Yankees sent RHP Steven White outright to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
White would have been claimed had the Yankees done this a year ago, but he has a 6.19 ERA in 10 starts and nine relief appearances in Triple-A this season. He was never a particularly good bet anyway, but worse pitchers have gotten looks in middle relief.

Yankees optioned RHP Steven White to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre; reassigned RHP Scott Strickland, RHP Daniel McCutchen and RHP Steven Jackson to minor league camp.
White had a 3.34 ERA in 15 starts and one relief appearance for Scranton, but all that earned him was five more days in major league camp than he had last year. He isn’t much more than a Jeff Karstens-type pitcher, so he doesn’t have much of a margin for error. Strickland, who was signed to a minor league deal, isn’t yet healthy enough to pitch in games.

Steven White fanned nine while allowing one run and three hits in seven innings Monday for Triple-A Columbus.
The 25-year-old White finished 4-9 with a 4.71 ERA, 100 H and 88/42 K/BB in 107 IP after moving up to Columbus. He might fit best as a reliever, especially if he stays in the organization. The arm is there for him to maybe become a setup man.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher
Steven White returned to action with a bullpen session on Wednesday and reported no problems.
White was held back last week because of shoulder dicomfort. He’s expected to assigned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for the beginning of the season.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher
Yankees reassigned RHP Steven White, INF Marcos Vechionacci, INF Ramiro Pena, C Francisco Cervelli, C Omir Santos and C P.J. Pilittere to their minor league camp.
The Yankees become the first team to make a round of cuts. White likely would have stuck around longer if not for his shoulder problems earlier in camp, but he wasn’t a candidate to make the team.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher
Yankees prospect Steven White has been shut down to shoulder discomfort and is scheduled for an MRI.
The 25-year-old White was expected to be a part of Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s rotation. He’ll be a reliever at best in the majors.
