Jaylen Brown waited a while to declare for the NBA draft, though most assumed all along he would. The delay in announcement seemed more about timing than indecisiveness.

But the situation might differ for another Cal freshman, Ivan Rabb.

Connor Letourneau of SFGate:

Rabb — a likely lottery pick — is strongly considering returning for his sophomore season, according to multiple sources.

Rabb would probably go in the middle of the first round, on either side of the lottery line.

The deadline to declare is Sunday. But if Rabb declares, he could withdraw by May 25 and maintain his college eligibility (as long as he doesn’t hire an agent or do anything else that violates the NCAA’s restrictive and paternalistic rules). So, if he’s unsure, he should declare and buy himself more time. He could even participate in the combine and gain more information, though he wouldn’t have to.

A long and athletic power forward, Rabb has nice potential as a defender and rebounder, especially as he gets stronger. In this draft, that’s enough to land solidly in the first round – and get a guaranteed contract.
