Steven Stamkos injured at World Championships

At first it was thought to be just a shoulder injury, but now we learn that Steven Stamkos will miss at least one game of the IIHF World Hockey Championships with a possible concussion. From Sportsnet:

“I think it’s just a protocol that you follow when someone has the symptoms that he had,” said Canadian GM Mark Messier. “It’s not a blunt blow to the head, that kind of concussion. It’s a different kind when you get hit in the jaw. There’s still a protocol to follow and we’re going to do that because it’s the right thing to do.”

Mark Messier is one of the biggest advocates for player safety, in particular head injuries, and I’m certain he won’t allow Stamkos back on the ice until they are certain he is fine. That the injury came from an elbow to the jaw and not to the head alters things and it’s likely that even Messier’s new helmet wouldn’t have helped.

He says that he’s looking at adding a forward from one of the recently eliminated teams. Could Sidney Crosby be available?
