Norway’s Aksel Lund Svindal returned to skiing in training last week, after he ruptured an Achilles tendon playing soccer in October.

Svindal, a three-time 2010 Olympic Alpine medalist, said he could compete at the World Championships in February in Vail/Beaver Creek, Colo.

“It is impossible to say how long it will take before I feel 100 percent ready to compete,” Svindal said, according to a release. “Therefore, it is completely open if I am ready for the World Championships.”

Svindal, 32, is the reigning World champion in the downhill.

He is sure to be looking forward to making up for a poor Sochi Olympics, where he was fourth, seventh and eighth in three races. He pulled out before the end of the Olympics due to allergies and fatigue.

Svindal won super-G gold, downhill silver and giant slalom bronze at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.
