Manchester City will have to do without top scorer Sergio Aguero for up to a month, after the Argentine hot-shot was injured in the 5-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.

The hamstring injury will keep Aguero out of Monday’s massive Premier League showdown with Chelsea at the Eithad, as well as an FA Cup last 18 tie with Jose Mourinho’s men.

But the biggest blow for City is that Aguero will more than likely miss the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last 16 tie against FC Barcelona. That’s a massive blow.

Aguero, 25, has only just returned from a calf injury which saw him miss eight games from December until January 15.

But since making his return against Blackburn five games ago, Aguero hit the ground running after scoring seven times and looked in sublime form as the goals continued to flow.

So far this season Aguero has scored 26 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions. There’s no doubt he’s City’s leading man in attack with his clinical finishing the stuff dreams are made of. But even though Aguero will be missing for at least four weeks, Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko are more than capable of scoring the goals City need to keep their juggernaut smashing through the Premier League. Dzeko and Negredo both scored six times each in Aguero’s last injury spell, which saw him out for seven games.

The Citizens are now top of the PL standings with a one-point lead over Arsenal, but have Chelsea on Monday to contend with, then face Norwich and Sunderland before another clash with Chelsea in the last 16 of the FA Cup. Then that massive clash against Barcelona on February 18 is likely to see Aguero miss out, as he is expected to miss the rest of February with his latest injury.

Losing Aguero is not ideal for Manuel Pellegrini and the Citizens... but if one club can handle losing their top goalscorer, it’s this City side.
