NL ROY: Spencer Strider (-150), Michal Harris (+110)
The race for National League Rookie of the Year has some separation and a new favorite.
Just a day ago, Michael Harris was the slight favorite at -115 odds and climbed as high as -125 a few days ago, while Spencer Strider was crossing over +100 territory until last night.
Strider recorded nine strikeouts and allowed one earned run on three hits in Saturday’s extra innings victory. The Braves rookie now ranks 11th in all of baseball for strikeouts (151), sixth in the National League and leads all rookies.
The 23-year-old RHP is holding his opponents to a .181 OBA and owns a .2.95 ERA over 100.2 innings pitched and 26 games overall (15 starts). Strider has been as consistent as they come and just what the Braves needed with Ian Anderson and Huascar Ynao struggling this season.
Harris has been hot in August, hitting .313 with 11 RBIs, 16 runs, 20 hits (3 HRs) and 16 strikeouts to three walks. However, Harris has been somewhat inconsistent this season.
Harris hit .154 in his four games (May), before batting .347 in June, .222 in July and .313 in August thus far. He will need to sustain that in September and hit above .300 again to keep from fading away. Strider’s impact down the stretch could be greater than Harris if he continues to go 1-of-4 or 1-of-3 each night with one-plus strikeout.
I still like Strider to win NL ROY (-150) and with his potential opportunities versus teams like the Pirates, Marlins, Rockies, Athletics, Nationals -- he can rack up some wins and continue to climb the strikeout ladder into the top 10 in all of baseball.
