Bryn Renner to ‘definitely’ start at QB for Tar Heels vs. ‘Canes

Following a one-game sabbatical, Bryn Renner will be back under center for North Carolina this weekend.

The senior suffered a foot injury in the Sept. 28 loss to ECU, then sat out the Oct. 5 loss to Virginia Tech. During the bye week, Renner was confident he would be back for this Thursday’s game against Miami after seeing his streak of 29 straight starts snapped.

His head coach, Larry Fedora, punctuated that confidence by stating Monday that Renner will “definitely” start the conference tilt.

Fedora’s decision to name Renner as the starter again comes after a week in which Renner had worked exclusively with the first-team offense.

Renner had been replaced against the Hokies by sophomore Marquise Williams, who completed nearly 66 percent of his passes for 277 yards and two touchdowns in his first collegiate start.

This season, Renner has completed just under 60 percent of his passes, throwing for seven touchdowns versus three interceptions in four games. He’s eighth in the ACC in passing efficiency.
