Buffs lose leading tackler for the year, top RB for 2-4 weeks

Jon Embree just can’t win for losing, although he’s becoming very familiar with the latter.

Not only has the first-year head coach watched as his Buffaloes have lost six of their seven games this season -- by an average of nearly 20 points per game, no less -- now he’s faced with the loss of two of his top players on each side of the ball.

Embree announced Monday that starting linebacker Douglas Rippy has torn ligaments in his knee and starting running back Rodney Stewart a severely sprained knee. Rippy’s injury will cost the junior the rest of the 2011 season, while Stewart will miss 2-4 weeks.

Oddly enough, Rippy and Stewart are cousins. Both suffered their injuries this past weekend.

Rippy is the Buffs’ leading tackler with 62. Stewart leads the team with 473 yards. When you add Stewart’s rushing, receiving and return yardage, he accounts for 38 percent (1,169 yards) of CU’s team total (3,082) this season.
