One of the least-celebrated traditions in college football is the annual so-called SEC-SoCon challenge, when three-fourths of the SEC takes a working bye week outside in late November, stepping outside conference play to prepare for rivalry week while still getting some work in against a team from the Southern Conference or another similarly financially-challenged conference.
On Sunday night, Georgia lined up its dance partner for 2016: Louisiana-Lafayette.
According to a report from the Athens (Ga.) Banner-Herald, Georgia will bring the Ragin’ Cajuns into Sanford Stadium on Nov. 19, 2016. Louisiana-Lafayette will receive $1.2 million for the opportunity.
The two teams have met once previously, a 55-7 smacking on Sept. 4, 2010.
Georgia has Nicholls State and Georgia Tech already lined up in non-conference play for 2016, plus Ole Miss as its rotating crossover opponent from the SEC West.
The Georgia game completes a humdinger of a 2016 non-conference slate for Louisiana-Lafayette. The Ragin’ Cajuns have home dates with Boise State and McNeese State and a trip to regional rival Tulane already lined up, according to scheduling clearinghouse FBSchedules.com.
