Iowa was hurting in more ways than one in Saturday’s 38-14 loss to Penn State. Offensive lineman Brandon Scherff left the game with a gruesome-looking leg injury, and coach Kirk Ferentz confirmed that the injury was as bad as it looked.
Ferentz said Sunday that Scherff is expected to “a couple months” with what is believed to be a broken right fibula and a dislocated ankle, although Ferentz did not confirm the specifics of the injury. Scherff had surgery Sunday morning. Seeing as it’s nearing the end of October, Scherff is likely done for the season (Ferentz said as much after Saturday’s game).
Nolan MacMillan filled in for Scherff and should be the leading candidate to replace him for the rest of the year along the Hawkeyes’ O-line.
