Johnny Football’s backup headed to UTEP?

Just a couple of months into his tenure at UTEP, Sean Kugler has made what could be the biggest move he’ll make for the foreseeable future.

While the school has yet to confirm anything, quarterback Jameill Showers revealed to MinerIllustrated.com that he has sent his paperwork to UTEP and will be playing football for the Miners in 2013. Showers said the decision was made following a visit he and his father made to the campus this past weekend.

As Showers is on track to graduate in a couple of months, he will be eligible to play immediately. He will also have two years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2013.

The move to UTEP comes roughly a month after Showers announced he would be transferring from Texas A&M.

Showers had seemingly exited spring practice in 2012 with a firm grasp on the Aggies’ starting quarterback job. However, some guy named Johnny Manziel was named the starter midway through summer camp and proceeded to make some history that you may or may not have heard of. With Manziel technically retaining three years of eligibility, there was little light at the end of the College Station playing tunnel for Showers, who threw for 319 yards in mop-up duty last season.
