Meyer says ‘no truth to’ report of contact with Penn State

On Friday, an Ohio-based blog reported, among other things, that former Florida head coach Urban Meyer had met with the president and athletic director at Penn State about possibly replacing Joe Paterno following the 2011 season.

The website, Sports RappUp.com, went so far as to report that the discussions between the two sides were “productive”. The only problem? Both sides are doing the expected and denying the validity of the detailed report.

When asked by Philly.com‘s Joe Juliano about the report as he was making his way through the Beaver Stadium parking lot Saturday, Meyer, who is part of the ESPN broadcast team for the PSU-Iowa game this afternoon, dismissed the notion that he’s had conversations with the school about replacing JoePa.

“I’m not going to say anything. There’s no truth to [the report],” Meyer was quoted by Juliano as saying.

PSU’s president, Graham Spanier, has also described the report as inaccurate.

Of course, with it being the middle of the season and a living legend still patrolling the sidelines, it makes perfect sense for both Meyer and, especially, the school to deny, deny, deny. It will be interesting, though, to watch how this plays out in the coming months because you can rest assured this will be far from the last report attaching Meyer’s name to Penn State -- or any other prestigious job in the country, for that matter.
