Just like he did in high school, Corn Elder is trying his hand at being a two-sport athlete at the collegiate level.
Miami men’s basketball head coach Jim Larranga confirmed to the Palm Beach Post that Elder has joined the Hurricanes hoops squad. According to Larranga, the football cornerback began practicing with the team Sunday.
Elder was quite the basketball player in high school in Tennessee, helping his team to two state championships as well as being named the tournament MVP three times. The plan for Elder coming to The U was to play both sports right off the bat, but an injury suffered during football last year forced a delay.
The Post notes, though that Elder will likely see very little playing time.
This season, Elder played in 13 games for the football ‘Canes. He started one of those contests. He also played in 10 games as a true freshman before the meniscus injury.
Elder will have some familiar football company as Larranga stated that sophomore wide receiver D’Mauri Jones will be joining the team as well. Those two are part of the handful of UM football players dipping their toes in another sport. From the paper:
