MICHIGAN STATE SIGNS DANTONIO TO A SMART DEAL

Michigan State has given coach Mark Dantonio a new contract, and as college football coaching contracts go, this one appears to be a fairer deal to both parties than most. Most of the time, when a coach has a decent season, he signs an enormous new deal, and one that’s one-sided in favor of the coach. But the Associated Press reports that Dantonio’s new deal doesn’t increase his base salary at all.Instead, Dantonio gets the same $618,000 a year as before, but he also gets increased supplemental income (meaning he’ll really make $1.8 million a year) and a $2 million bonus if he stays at Michigan State into 2016.”This revised contract signifies a mutual commitment,” Dantonio said in a statement released by Michigan State. “The university has certainly made a commitment to provide all of the necessary tools to build a championship-caliber program, and I’ve made a commitment to be the head coach at Michigan State for a very long time."Dantonio is 16-9 in two seasons with Michigan State.
