NCAA restores eligibility of UNC’s Ramsay

Taking a break from the Toomer’s Corner madness...

Earlier this month, the attorney handling the NCAA appeal of North Carolina fullback Devon Ramsay said he was “convinced that Devon has not committed any violation.”

This evening, the NCAA announced they agree.

In a press release, UNC announced that, based on new information provided by the school, the NCAA has determined that no violation has occurred in Ramsay’s case. As a result of this ruling, Ramsay is immediately eligible to return to competition.

“We are delighted for Devon,” said UNC athletic director Dick Baddour in a statement. “He is an outstanding young man and this is the right decision. Devon and his family never wavered in their belief that he did not commit a violation as we worked through this process. We appreciate the time and attention given to this case by the NCAA staff.”

Ramsay had played in the first four games of the 2010 season before being caught up in the two-pronged NCAA investigation into the UNC football program.

It was announced Oct. 9 that Ramsay would be held out of games pending the results of the probe, and he was ruled permanently ineligible Nov. 15.

The senior will have one season of eligibility remaining.
