During the second half of Clemson’s win over Middle Tennessee State, running back C.J. Spiller was nowhere to be found and there was quite a bit of muttering that their most potent offensive threat was injured worse than anyone was letting on.
Fear not, Tiger fans. And breathe.
With Georgia Tech lurking on the horizon, Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney wanted to take no chances with the health of the back. Especially against a team such as MTSU -- no offense intended, Blue Raiders.
Spiller jammed a toe in the first half on a punt return, and also felt a slight pull in his hamstring. That injury one-two forced Swinney to err on the side of caution and sit his talented back.
That being said, Spiller says he’s fine.
“I’m fine,” Spiller said. "(Swinney) held me back, it’s such a short turnaround.”
Even before his twin dings, Spiller was not at his productive best as the senior was limited to a meager 12 yards on five carries.
