Less than 24 hours after Steve Kragthorpe was “dismissed” by Louisville on Nov. 28, Charlie Strong emerged as the leading contender for the opening.
In the ensuing days, the Florida defensive coordinator’s potential hold on the job became tighter and tighter, with the latest and strongest sign yet coming Tuesday afternoon when the school announced that the board of directors would hold a meeting today to discuss personnel matters.
Now today, Strong has officially let the cat out of the bag, telling Florida Today that he has accepted the Cardinals’ offer and will become their next head coach.
“It’s a great opportunity for me,’' he said. “I think I’m going into a situation where I have great support and great resources to win. And it’s also a good chance to build a program.”
Strong is traveling to Louisville today for a press conference to officially announce his hiring.
